A popular Photo Exhibit at the OAS, New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, which captured the imagination of a large number of guests at its opening night reception on May 3, has expanded its collection with the addition of several substantive new works.
The extensive display shows even more of the striking beauty and diversity of the Dominican's thirty-three provinces, which occupy two thirds of the eastern part of Hispaniola. The new pieces have been enlarged, so one can appreciate the sense and feel of the expansiveness of these captivating lands.
The Exhibit, created from images of the book New Perspectives: Dominican Republic, which is an initiative of the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development and its sister Organization, FUNGLODE, seldom remains the same in content. DR based Photogropher, Anne Casale says that, each time the Exhibit is installed, it is done in various ways that invoke the changing moods of each province. This unique showcase of 35 images from the lesser-known areas of the Dominican Republic is the "secret" face of DR that the average tour operator, or tourist, knows little of.
The Exhibit forms part of GFDD/FUNGLODE's overall goal to promote the DR, disseminate information about the country as well as strengthen appreciation and respect for its culture and ecological heritage.
