In
its first presentation in South America, the photo exhibit "New Perspectives:
Dominican Republic" opened the evening of October 25th in Santiago, at an
exquisite location across from the presidential palace, La Moneda. The corner,
one of the busiest and liveliest streets in the city, sits in the heart of the
city, where public servants and ministers share the sidewalk with passersby,
students, families and mothers with their strollers.
Merengue music drifted their powerful notes to this street corner where aerial
photographs of the Dominican Republic were exhibited. Even Minister Goldbem
couldn’t resist the attraction and came to join us for the celebration. Images
of Chilean children dancing the merengue and singing Chilean and Dominican
anthems preceded remarks by representative of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Asuncion Sanz from GFDD, photographer Anne Casale, and Ambassador Pablo
Mariñez.
The local diplomatic corps was amply represented and enjoyed the exhibit
alongside guests, artists, general public and members of the local Dominican
community and their families.
The exhibit, a production of GFDD, was presented in Santiago with the valuable
collaboration of the Embassy of the Dominican Republic led by Ambassador
Mariñez, Ninotchka Torres, and a wonderful team of employees. It is the first in
a series of exhibits held at different locations throughout Chile with other
countries to follow.
The photo exhibit "New Perspectives: Dominican Republic" was conceived by the
book of the same title. The purpose of the exhibit is to present the Dominican
Republic in a new light, introducing the beauty of Dominican landscapes as it is
captured from the air. The exhibits have been successfully presented in
different places around the world, such as the Dominican Republic, New York,
Washington, DC, Rhode Island, and Barcelona.
