New York, February 13, 2013
The month of February, Mes de Herencia is an especially busy month for the popular New Perspectives: Dominican Republic Photo Exhibit in the New York Metro Areas.
In close association with the DR Consulate in New York under the dynamic leadership of newly appointed consul Felix Antonio Martinez, GFDD and FUNGLODE will feature New Perspectives in three venues covering 3 different states during this month. This is in addition to one already in progress in partnership with PS84 in Brooklyn, and another one slated for early March collaborating with the Dominican Dream Project.
The New Perspectives Exhibit is the striking result of efforts from an international interdisciplinary team, including GFDD Executive Director Natasha Despotovic and Dominican-based French photographer Anne Casale, to showcase aerial photographs of lesser-discovered images of the Dominican landscape.
On February 26 at 6:30pm, the Exhibit can be viewed during the Lecture on the Life of Juan Pablo Duarte, sponsored by the prominent Dominican historian Héctor Luis Martinez, Director of the Museum of History and Geography of the Dominican Republic. The location of the talk will be at Myrna Auditorium Daniela Vivian & Seymour Milstein-Family Heart Center,173 Fort Washington Ave, New York NY 10032.
The same talk and exhibit move across the border to New Jersey on February 28 and can be enjoyed at Paterson Museum, Thomas Rogers Building, 2 Market St., Paterson NJ 07501 from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.
More information can be obtained from the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in NY 212 768-2480 ext 1024.
Simultaneously, a similar exhibit on February 28, showcasing approximately 20 aerial images, will be lodged at William Allen High School. In partnership with the Dominican Consulate, it will form the backdrop of a GFDD Dominican Get-togethers in Allentown. The special Dominican Get-together, premiering in the state of PA, aims to promote a better understanding of the richness and diversity of Dominican culture. It will provide audiences with an opportunity to enjoy and celebrate the DR’s prominent figures and upcoming talents. The DGT will highlight DR’s favorite pastime of baseball and include a speaking guest appearance, the former Yankee and Dominican Baseball player, Luis Polonia, click here for more information.
