“New Perspectives: Dominican Republic” Exhibition in Playa Dorada, in Northern Dominican Republic

Following its success in Santo Domingo, Santiago and Washington DC, it will be open until August 30th.

The traveling exhibition, “New Perspectives: Dominican Republic” is now on view, as of July 16, at the Playa Dorada Complex where visitors can see some 100 large (48” x 72”) aerial photographs of Dominican landscapes taken by French-Dominican (Puerto Plata) photographer Anne Casale.

The exhibition is made up of, among other things, images contained in a book by the same name published by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (GFDD) and the Fundación Global Democracia y Desarrollo (FUNGLODE) by an international interdisciplinary group led by Natasha Despotovic, director and editor-in-chief.

Various people from the Puerto Plata area attended the inauguration of the exhibition including the province´s governor , Eridania Lluberes; businessman Chichi Selman; director of the association of hotels of the zone, Manuel Finke; Honorary Consul of France, Anne Goffaux and Central American Parliamentarian Juan Pablo Placido. FUNGLODE was represented by Paul Goris, coordinator of the Education and Technology Program. (See photos)

Since its first public viewing in May 2009, the exhibition was warmly received in Santiago, on a national level, and in Washington DC on an international level. On this occasion, the exhibition is being shown in the gardens of the Plaza Playa Dorada and the Playa Dorada Golf Club, much to the delight of the tourists and locals who can enjoy the photo display free of charge.

The opening event was also took place in the gardens of the Playa Dorada Golf Club. Ms. Casale´s photographs will remain on display until August 30.

The Book

“New Perspectives: Dominican Republic” is a masterful, bilingual publication (Spanish-English) which includes some 400 photographs in nine chapters: Reflections of Light, Coasts, Heights, Mountains, Plains, History, the City, the People, Tourism and Work, all with images and text describing different aspects of the country´s history, culture, ecology and contemporary life.

The creation and publication of the book is part of the mission of FUNGLODE and GFDD to promote the image of the Dominican Republic around the world, to disseminate information about the country, strengthen appreciation and respect for its culture and ecological heritage.

FUNGLODE and GFDD hope that this book serves as a reference for Dominicans, locals and those living abroad, as well as for foreign visitors, businesspeople, students, art and photography buffs and for those interested in getting to know the Dominican Republic better.
